Use rich snippets for search engine listings

When we talk about search engine rankings and SEO the focus is usually on earning the rankings. But what if your site is ranked, and your still not getting as much traffic as you should be? The problem might be your results snippets, the lines of text shown to the user in the search result listings.

You can control those search engine results snippets (up to a point) using rich snippets. Rich snippets can be provided to Google and other search engines in several formats. Google for instance supports Microdata, Microformats and RDFa. Their recommended choice of the 3 is the Microdata.
